On August 27, 2016, after a fatal accident on Southwest Airlines Flight 1380, where an engine failure caused one passenger's death, U.S. aviation regulators mandated immediate inspections of CFM56-7B engines. The FAA has directed airlines to examine fan blades on these engines, widely used in Boeing 737 aircraft, following the discovery that a blade fractured during flight. This safety measure seeks to avoid future incidents of this nature.
